5 Udaiyaar Part-1 (Tamil)

The review is not just for part 1 but Udaiyaar as a whole.

When I first took part 1 I didn't realize that I was actually holding a master piece. With the usual eagerness in any Balakumaran novel, I considered this book too. But as I kept reading, just cant keep it down! This is not a thriller, not action or mystery but only history in simple manner. Still you are kept with eagerness and is a page turner.

Balakumaran is engrossed with the huge Tanjore temple and has done enough research in bringing up this novel based on the characters as depicted in the stone inscriptions (kalvettugal) inside the temple. With some amount of fiction added, with some guesses that this is how it would have been done he has attempted to provide an update of the huge ornated shrine. Not just the struggle that the great king would have undergone to finish a mega project, but also depicts the lifestyle that would have been prevailed in chola period.
