Can you get the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare?
A truly inspiring book!
Every one has entrepreneurial dreams hidden within him. But we are so swamped by fears of failure, weak financial statements, detractors, well-intentioned advice (??) etc. that we dare not even articulate the dream. This book goes to show that even ordinary people with jugaad
The review is not just for part 6 but Udaiyaar as a whole.
When I first took part 1 I didnt realize that I was actually holding a master piece. With the usual eagerness in any Balakumaran novel, I considered this book too. But as I kept reading, just cant keep it down! This is not a thriller, not action or mystery but only history in simple manner. Still you are kept with eagerness and is a page turner.
Balakumaran is engrossed with the huge Tanjore temple and has done enough research in bringing up this novel based on the characters as depicted in the stone inscriptions (kalvettugal) inside the temple. With some amount of fiction added, with some guesses that this is how it would have been done he has attempted to provide an update of the huge ornated shrine. Not just the struggle that the great king would have undergone to finish a mega project, but also depicts the lifestyle that would have been prevailed in chola period.
It discusses about various caste-varna clashes that would have prevailed. It is packed heavily with the social insight, the burdens of a king, lifestyle of royal families, the chanakya-ism needed among the first set of ministers (senathipathi Brahmarayar), the importance of dancer clan women (dhevaradiyargal), the diginities of sculptors, courage of warriors, eveything is looked upon. Not to forget the spiritual punch of Balakumaran. Death is discussed in a very lively manner (uh! what an oxymoron!!). Part 5 book has a lovely narration of an action packed war between Chola and North Chalukyas. Overall a must read of every tamizhan and every history lover.
At first I thought OMG! there are 6 parts is it?? But at the end of it I felt like OMG! only 6 parts?? I have been pondering Rajaraja cholan so much that he was doing all my work (C programming) in my dreams!! LOL!
This was my introduction to the Book world (am 3 year old :)). Mommy read this out in a lovely manner and i became a huge fan of Peppa. Now I want to read all Peppa series :)
The story starts with a wolf introducing his friends. Their names are Mr. snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark and the wolves name is Mr. Wolf. Their gang name is " The Bad Guys". The wolf wanted to turn their gang into good guys. They first plan to scare a cat in a tree. The cat was scared by the piranha, so it fell of the tree and ran away. But still the Bad guys were happy. Then the Bad guys gang went to save two hundred dogs who were in cage and they saved it.
My favorite characters of the story are the members of the Bad Guys gang. My favorite part of the story is when the Wolf drives a super car.

She died peacefully in her sleep on 28th November 1968. Even after several decades, she is fondly remembered by many children for her books.
Picture:
The picture shows Felicity, the head girl, trying to balance books on her head. Felicity is also the younger sister of Darrell. Gwendoline who was an old girl, returns as a teacher and is taking classes on how to be a proper lady. She is standing near Felicity teaching her to gain proper posture. Felicity is wearing her uniform while Gwendoline is wearing a purple blouse and a blue skirt. Gwendoline has pulled up her hair into a ponytail while Felicity has left it around her shoulders. Felicity's face expression is as if she is really determined to keep her posture. Gwendoline's expression is as if she is very happy with Felicity's success.
CHARACTERS:
Felicity, the head girl of Malory Towers, is a kind and respectful girl. She has the quality of changing any person to a good one, just like her sister, Darrell. She has a lot of fun with her friends but always becomes serious when it comes to studies.
Darrell, the sister of Felicity, was a head girl when she was studying in school. Darrell had a very hot temper when she started in Malory Towers but learned to control it and became one of the best head girls in the school.
Susan, Felicity's best friend, is always fun to be with.
Gwendoline, also known as Ms. Lacey, was in Darrell's form when she was young and was very mean and spiteful then. But now she has returned as a teacher and is teaching a different type of art.
Miss Grayling, the head mistress of Malory Towers, is a serious but kind woman and takes care of all the disputes of Malory Towers.
Daisy, a maid at Malory Towers, is a person who loves gossip and turns out to be of a bad character in the story.
SETTING OF THE PLACE:
The place where the story revolves around is a boarding school called Malory Towers. It is a beautiful school with four towers and a beautiful ocean water swimming pool. There is a huge hole carved out by the water. When the tide comes in, the ocean fills it every day with fresh water. The girls of the school love the swimming pool. The teachers there are very strict but very nice and the girls love their school. All the forms have their own dormitories and common rooms but the sixth formers alone have their own study.
SUMMARY:
It is the last term at Malory Towers for Felicity and her friends and Felicity is the head girl. Ms. Grayling tells Felicity that there is a new mistress who is going to teach the sixth formers, things like etiquette and grace. The mistress was Gwendoline Lacey, an old girl who had studied in Darrell's form and had been very mean and spiteful.
The other girls weren't thrilled and learned that Lizzie who had been in fifth form had moved up to sixth because she did not fit in with the others. Lizzie only cared about studying and also forced her younger sister to do so too. She did this because her uncle paid for the fees and he wanted them to pay back later.
Lizzie's younger sister, Edith, who was in the first form, wanted to have a midnight feast but Lizzie found out about it and gave her sister an ultimatum. But Edith did not listen and went on with her feast.
Mean while, someone was playing many mean and spiteful tricks on Gwen. Gwen and her friend think that it was Amy, a girl of the sixth form, who did not like her.
The first formers planned a feast and Edith decided she will lock Lizzie in the shed so she could not sneak on the feast. But before she did that, Gwen or someone who looked like Gwen locked Lizzie in the shed. Edith went back to the midnight feast.
But their form mistress caught them and told them that they all have to go to Ms.Grayling's study the next day. Meanwhile Felicity and Alice found Lizzie and helped her get warm. She told them all that happened and the sixth formers were very puzzled.
The sixth formers also learned that Darrell's form was having a reunion. One evening, Edith and Lizzie's uncle came and took them to tea and learnt that he did not want them to repay him but to enjoy their time at Malory towers. After that incident Lizzie became more playful and happy.
When Gwen showed her form mates her classroom, she had another nasty surprise. This time Gwen started crying and told them all that she had been having a very bad time since she started as a teacher. She told them all the incidents that happened.
Alicia, who had joined the police force, found the culprit and decided to trap her. Darrell and Gwen also helped her and they captured her using a bait. The culprit was Daisy, a maid, who had done it because Gwen had treated her badly many years ago.
They reported her to Ms. Grayling who fired her. Then the last day of the term came and Felicity and Darrell said a silent goodbye to Malory Towers and went back to their home with their parents.
REVIEW:
I love this book and I have already borrowed it from the library many times. The book is a great and interesting read for many children. I will recommend it to all my friends. The author uses easy vocabulary so that the book is easy to read and understand. The font in the book is a little small but that has an advantage as you can get many more words into one page. The plot is really interesting and fun. There is a lot of suspense in the story which also made it exciting to read. It was more of a mystery, so I loved it. There were many jokes that were made so a sense of humour runs throughout the story. The author uses a British style throughout the story as she is British. My favourite characters are Felicity and Darrell. They both are sisters and have similar qualities. They both are very kind and sweet and they have a quality of always helping others. But if anyone does anything wrong, Felicity and Darrel won't take it easily.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND PICTURE:
Author:
Johanna Spyri was born on 12 June, 1827. She was born in Hirzel, Switzerland. She was born to Meta Schweizer and Johan Jacob Heusser. Her mother was a poet and her father was a doctor. The only education she had was in her village school. She wrote poetry as a child. She lived with her extended family- grandmother, two aunties and two cousins as well as her mother, father, two brothers and three sisters. She married lawyer Bernhard Spyri in 1852 and they moved to Zurich. She then started writing novels. She started writing novels to help orphans and refugees of Franco-Prussian War. Her first novel, A Leaf on Vrony's Grave was published in 1871 anonymously. First part of Heidi was published in 1881 anonymously. It was so popular that she wrote the second part using her original name. Tragedy struck for Johanna in 1884 when both her husband and son passed away. After that, she started raising a niece and writing more books which were published but did not get as much acknowledgement as Heidi. Johanna Spyri died on July 7, 1901 in Berlin. She wrote around 40 stories for children in German which were later translated in English.
Cover picture:
In the picture, Heidi is shown wearing her cotton slip with flowers in her hand, and playing with two goats in a meadow. She is surrounded by mountains. The smile on her face shows that she is happy to be with her grandfather. Behind her you can see fir trees that really make her happy. We can see a small house in the distance with a path leading to it which can be assumed as where her " The Grandmother" lives. We can also see that the goats like to be with her. The village in the valleys looks like a small town and therefore is called The Little Village. The scenery in the picture is really very beautiful and in my opinion, Heidi looks very pretty and sweet.
CHARACTERS:
Heidi, the main character, is a small little girl who likes to be free and is very respectful. She loves her grandfather very much. She also loves the Alps and the meadows. She is very friendly and wins the affection of her grandfather quickly. She befriends Peter and his grandmother before she is taken back to Frankfurt.
Alm-Uncle, also the grandfather of Heidi, is very unfriendly and very caring. He learns to care for his granddaughter and gets very upset when she leaves him. He gives Heidi all the essentials but does not allow her to go to school.
Dete, the maternal aunt of Heidi, is a very busy and stubborn lady. She leaves Heidi with her grandfather and also takes her away later.
Peter, a goatherd, is very friendly and gets along easily with Heidi. He and Heidi become best friends soon.
Peter's grandmother, who is known by Heidi as "The Grandmother", is a blind but kind lady. She likes her very much. She really wants Heidi or Peter to read The Book Of Hymns to her.
Klara, Heidi's friend and study mate in Frankfurt, is a very fun and sweet girl, who likes Heidi very much. She likes the stories that Heidi tells her and calms Heidi down when she starts to cry.
Herr Sesemann, the father of Klara, is a very nice man and doesn't like anyone to suffer in his house. He wants his daughter to be happy always. He often goes away on work trips.
Fraulein Rottenmeier, the mother of Klara, is a very strict woman who does not like rules to be disobeyed. She is very strict to particularly to Heidi. However, Heidi is very respectful to her.
SETTING OF THE PLACE:
There are only two settings in the whole story. One of them is the mountains and the other is a city in Frankfurt.
The mountains and the meadows are the place where the Uncle lives. He and Heidi love them very much as they look so peaceful and beautiful. Heidi loves the sound of the wind blowing in the fir trees behind their hut. At the base of the mountains, you can almost smell the fresh grass and the fragrant flowers blooming farther up the mountain. It is very hot in summer and very cold during the winter. After one hour of climbing up the mountains, you will reach the Little Village, true to its name. In the valley and the meadows, there are tiny bunches of pink blossoms growing by the rocks. The hills far away are covered with dots of blue and specks of yellow. In the evening, while the sun sets, the snow high up on the hills turns rosy red. In the evenings, the valleys below are covered in mist.
When Heidi's aunt takes her away, the place she goes to is Frankfurt. Herr Sesemann's house is in a small town in Frankfurt and is very big. When Heidi first arrives, she stares in awe at the big house. The house has many rooms and Heidi has her own room. The place is so elegant that Heidi feels as if she doesn't belong there at all. All around the house, there are stony streets and walls which Heidi doesn't like.
SUMMARY:
Heidi is a small little girl and is an orphan. Her aunt takes her up the mountains to live with her grandfather and she loves to be there. She soon wins her grandfather's affection and love. She loves to wander freely about the mountains with Peter, the goatherd, and the goats.
During the winter months, Peter has to go to school and Heidi stays at home with her grandfather. One day, Peter invites her home to meet his grandmother. Heidi goes to Peter's house and learns that "The Grandmother" wants Peter to read The Book of Hymns to her as she is blind. Heidi spends her days playing with her grandfather and visiting Peter's house.
One day, Dete, Heidi's aunt, tells the Alm-Uncle that she is taking Heidi to Frankfurt to a new house. The Alm-Uncle gets upset and tells Dete that she and Heidi should not come to his house again. Dete tricks Heidi saying she will come back tomorrow and persuades her into leaving.
Heidi goes to Herr Sesemann's house and assists Klara, Herr Sesemann's daughter, to study but she herself does not learn to read. Heidi keeps thinking that she will go home but she never does.
One day, when Herr Sesemann comes home, he brings Heidi a book with many bright pictures. One picture catches Heidi's eyes as it is a picture of the meadows and mountains. She is inspired by this to learn to read and soon she masters it.
A few weeks after Herr Sesemann leaves, some strange things happen in the house. First, Fraulein Rottenmeier thinks it is a thief but soon finds out it isn't because there was nothing missing. One night, one of the servants decides he has to get to the bottom of it. He sees a pale white figure and gets really scared. He tells Fraulein Rottenmeier that a ghost is there in the house. Klara also comes to know of it and says that she needs Herr Sesemann in the house.
Herr Sesemann comes back and decides to call his old friend, the doctor, to his house to search for the ghost. They too see the white figure and later find that it's Heidi!
The doctor brings Heidi back to her room and asks her how she got down. She says that she doesn't know and also says she dreams that she is with her grandfather every night and when she wakes up she is down there.
Heidi goes to sleep and the doctor goes to talk with Herr Sesemann. He tells him that Heidi had been sleepwalking and she really needed to go home for her health. Herr Sesemann was really upset because a child had been wasting time at his house and nobody had noticed it.
He decides to send Heidi home with Sebastian, the servant, that day itself. She goes to the mountains and first goes to meet "The Grandmother" and reads some of the hymns in her book. Next she goes to her grandfather and hugs him. The Alm-Uncle goes to check on her ten times in the night. Her grandfather had read in the letter Herr Sesemann had sent him that she was sleepwalking and didn't want her to hurt herself. But she was sleeping peacefully. Her wandering was finally over. She was at home.
REVIEW:
In my opinion, Heidi was really fun and interesting to read. I did not want to put the book down after I started reading it. I will recommend it to all my friends. The vocabulary that the author used was very simple and would be easy even for six to eight year olds to read. The author had originally written it in German and someone else has translated it to English. Heidi's feelings are beautifully expressed and we can relate to them. The author has also described the Alps as a very beautiful place and we can picture it. The book has very bold font throughout so that it is very easy to read and understand the words. The plot is very nicely described and we can get a clear picture in our minds of whatever Heidi does. I think that the plot was a really imaginative one but it could happen in real life. The plot was one of my favourites and I will remember it as it had so many great moments. There weren't many humourous moments but at the same time it was very jovial. My favourite characters were Heidi and Klara. Heidi was really sweet and respectful to everyone. She is very smart for an eight-year old and loves her grandfather and "The Grandmother" dearly. Klara is a twelve year old girl who can't leave her wheelchair and she is very kind to Heidi. She likes Heidi as if she is her own sister. Klara always keeps up her promises and likes kittens very much.
Summary :
Matilda, a 5-year-old girl loves to read books. She would be always reading a book, which their parents don’t like. Her father Mr. Wormwood, is a second-hand car dealer. Her mother Mrs. Wormwood, was a home maker. Her parents show anger and dislike for her. One day her father scolded her so harshly, that Matilda was about to cry. Here came the first incident, as she gummed her father’s hat with super glue, and he was unable to take it out.
Soon it was the time for Matilda to join school. At school, Miss. Jenifer Honey, was Matilda’s class teacher. She was a sweet teacher, and the only person who found Matilda’s greatness. It was also a quite shock for her, when she found out that she was able to read in the age of 5. Here comes the school’s headmistress, Ms. Trunchbull. She was an enormous creature who hates small children. For instance, she threw a girl with long hair outside the building since she hates long hair, she also made a boy eat an enormous cake since the boy ate her cake.
Now, at school Trunchbull gave trouble to Matilda, as she was smart, and at her house her parents gave trouble to her. Soon this was so annoying for her, as she found the electricity passing from her eyes, this incident made Matilda lift anything without touching it.
Soon, when Matilda found out that Ms. Trunchbull was Ms. Honey’s aunt had stolen Ms. Honey’s house, she got an idea. The next day when Ms. Trunchbull was teaching, Matilda used her excellent eye power to write on the board “Trunchbull give Honey back her house”. When Trunchbull saw this, she got so terrified that she ran out of the house.
This story shows how Matilda gave those horrible grown-ups a lesson.
Review:
This is an interesting story about a small girl named Matilda. All the parents in the world have love and affection towards us, but in this story, Matilda’s parents show only anger and dislike for her, but for her brother Mike, they show great love for him.
I liked the way how the author Roald Dahl has expressed the character of Matilda, in the story. Her parents hate to read books, as they watch television during dinner, unlike for Matilda who loves to read books, even during dinner. When she entered school, she was five and a half. At school, Ms. Trunchbull, hates students and always scolds them. She doesn’t like pony tails for girls and long hair for boys.Unfortunately, she was the headmistress of the school.
But, Matilda’s class teacher Ms. Honey shows care and affection for children. But, Matilda was extraordinary, in her sight. She allows her to read books, as she teaches the students spellings (since Matilda already knows how to READ). This story shows how Matilda teaches those horrible grown-ups a lesson.
The author has expressed Ms. Trunchbull as a dangerous giant in the story. The author has also given several twists in the story, such as Ms. Honey’s terrible aunt turned out to be Ms. Trunchbull, and several other twists were also given.
It was a very interesting story, that we could not keep the book down until we finish the book.

Rick Riordan, whose real name is Richard Russell, is an American author born on June 5, 1964. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, United States of America. His books have been translated into 42 languages and sold more than 30 million copies in the US. Riordan's first full length novel was 'Big Red Tequila'. His big breakthrough was 'The Lightening Thief', the first novel in the Percy Jackson series. Since then, he has written 'The Kane Chronicles' series and 'The Heroes of Olympus' series. 'The Heroes of Olympus' series was the sequel to the Percy Jackson series. 'The Kane Chronicles' focused on Egyptian mythology.
Life and Career:
Riordan graduated from Alamo Heights High School. He went to University of Texas in Austin and studied English and History; he received his teaching certification in those subjects at University of Texas in San Antonio.
He married Becky Riordan on June 5,1985. They moved to Boston in 2013 when their two sons were of college and high school age.
SUMMARY:
Percy Jackson thinks he is just a normal kid who gets into trouble wherever he goes. But when a monster chases him and kills his mother, he begins to suspect something is wrong. He finds out he is a half blood, one of his parents is a mortal human and the other parent, an immortal Greek God. He goes to the Half Blood Camp, the only place on earth protected from monsters who are attracted to half bloods. He learns he is the son of Poseidon, the sea god. Zeus, brother of Poseidon, has had an argument with Poseidon as his main weapon of power, the major bolt has been stolen. Zeus thinks Percy stole it for his father and Percy thinks Hades, the Lord of Death, another brother of theirs, stole it and is trying to start a war between the brothers. Percy trying to get the bolt from the underworld and trying to get back to Olympus before the summer solstice makes up the rest of the plot.
CHARACTERIZATION:
The story revolves around Percy Jackson and his friends, Annabeth and Grover. Percy is the son of the sea god, Poseidon and his mother is an ordinary women. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and her father is an ordinary man. Grover is a satyr whose duty is to protect Percy. Zeus' master bolt was stolen and Zeus thinks it Poseidon, his brother. But Percy believes it is Hades who took the bolt to start a war between the gods. Percy is deterred from his quest by a chimera, a monster who looks like a dog, Medusa, an ugly monster who can turn anyone or anything into a statue, a minotaur, a bull man, Ares, the god of war and many more. Percy is my favourite character as he is brave and very impertinent. He shows his bravery by attempting to go into the underworld which is a very frightening place. He is very impertinent because he dared to send Medusa's ugly head as an offering to the gods. Another character I like is Annabeth because she is also another brave character. She is really brave she helped Percy throughout his quest. Grover is a satyr who has to complete a quest to get his searcher's license and he befriends Percy. All the three work together and help each other when they need to.
MY OPINION:
The story was really interesting and the book was really good. I could not put the book down once I started reading it. This was first book in the Percy Jackson series and I cannot wait to get the next book in the series. My favourite part of the book was when Percy was in Olympus and met his father and gave the bolt back to his uncle. My least favourite part of the book is when they are talking to Hades in the underworld. I would like to change the fact that Cerberus has no one to play with, in the Underworld. He is always lonely and at work always. Teens who are brave and who like to learn about ancient Greek mythology would love this book.

SUMMARY:
The story is about two magicians trying to revive the sun god Ra. Ra had been forced into retirement by Isis, another goddess, who was greedy for power. These two magicians Carter and Sadie Kane must find and revive Ra, because in 5 days, Apophis, the serpent of chaos, is going to break out of his prison which was made by Ra. To find and revive Ra, they must find the three parts of the Book of Ra, which holds the spell to where they must go and what they must do. As the descendants of the magical House of Life, they are not afraid, but will they be able to do it in five days? Not only do they have a time deadline, but Menshikov, a evil minion is also trying to stop them . The Kanes' adventures in trying to revive Ra and defeat Menshikov and Apophis makes up the rest of the plot.
CHARACTERIZATION:
The main characters of this story are Carter and Sadie. They are the main protagonists and are assisted by Bes, an ugly dwarf, Bast, the cat goddess, Amos (the 2nd most powerful magician and also their uncle). The main antagonists they want to defeat are Apophis, the serpent of chaos, and Vladimir Menshikov. Carter and Sadie Kane are trying to revive the very old Sun God Ra and defeat Apophis who is trying to bring chaos to the world. Personally, my favorite character is Sadie who always speaks and acts her mind. She is also courageous and out spoken. At one point in the book, Sadie's birthday comes up. But there is great danger on that day, and Sadie doesn't want to give up her plans of going to London and having her birthday party. I feel stubborn like her at times when my parents say no to something. I feel that Sadie is brave because she was ready to sacrifice her life to revive Ra. If I were her at that time, I might have gotten scared but would have tried to find another way to revive Ra. Her personality seem a lot like mine. Carter, another person I like, wants to save another magician Zia. Sadie and Carter don't work together and their ideas clash but they are siblings and love each other a lot.
MY OPINION:
The story was very interesting and the book was really good. It was hard to put the book down once I started reading it. I finished reading the book in one day. this was my first Rick Riordan book and I will surely read many more. My favorite part of the book is in the 4th house with Tawaret when they wake up Ra. My least favorite part is when they get in the limousine with Bes and describe how dirty it is. I would like to change the appearance of Bes the dwarf god because he is such a friendly and helpful character but has such a disgusting appearance that when someone looks at him he seems like a bad person. I would totally recommend this book to someone. Teens who like to learn about ancient mythology would love this book.
The Magic Tree House series of books written by Mary Pope Osborne are really exciting! It is an adventure story.
The main characters are Jack and his sister Annie who live in Pennsylvania, USA. They explore different places around the world such as Amazon rain forest, Antarctica, Australia, Ireland, America with the help of a magic tree house. The magic tree house is in Frog Creek woods near their house. The owner of the magic tree house is Morgan le Fay, who is a librarian. In every Magic Tree House book, Jack and Annie point at a place in a book in the tree house and wish to go there. Soon, they magically get transported to that place. They then explore the place. In some books, Jack and Annie help Merlin, the magician. In some books, Teddy and Kathleen help Jack and Annie find the secret.
Once I start reading this book, I can never close it until I finish it, and once I finish reading, I feel I want to read the book all over again. I like these books because there are many interesting facts about the places they explore. My favorite book in this series is "Blizzard of the Blue Moon" in which they explore New York City in the USA.
